Duke University’s Freshman Porn Star

Duke University’s Freshman Porn Star

I came across this story about a Duke University Freshman female who is also a porn star. Yup, you read that right.

On one hand, I’m proud of this girl  as she takes a positive stand on women sexuality. On the other, I’m a little mortified. This is a young girl who has her entire world ahead of her and I am SO confused what hopes and dreams and ambitions she has that working in porn is helping her achieve? Can someone tell me in case I’m missing something here?

However, she makes a very valid point about our society: if a girl sleeps with a guy too early she’s a whore and if she doesn’t she’s a prude. You can really never make everyone happy.

Here’s a fun little story about how I can relate:

Two or three years ago, I was at a New Years Eve party and there was a guy I was semi-interested in. I barely knew him, we had never been on a date, but I thought he was cute and we always had a good time when we would see each other. He asked me to go up to his room to “hang out” and I kindly declined. He wasn’t my boyfriend, we weren’t even dating, and I barely knew the fool. I’m super old-fashioned and personally, that kind of thing just isn’t for me. He wasn’t too thrilled with my answer and persisted to ask me to go up but the answer remained no. Anyways, a few days later, my cousin was standing with NYE boy coincidentally and overheard him telling his friend that I was a prude and that he heard I had made out with a few of his friends so I must get around. UH so which is it? Am I a slut or am I prude? Because I’m pretty sure you just told me I was both and that kind of makes zero sense. Does that make me a prude slut? And for the record, I did NOT make out with your friends, so let’s get a fact check, shall we? The guy was clearly a sleezy douche who was embarrassed to tell his homeboys he didn’t get any, not because of his gross ways, but because I am a prude.

Back to the freshman porn star. I have to applaud this girl in a way. The post was well-written and there’s no doubt she has brains because she was smart enough to get into Duke. That’s no easy thing people. I admire her for being so open about her sexuality, but I don’t know how much I can support the fact that she is a porn star. There are other ways to empower a woman’s sexuality. In fact, I think women need to really own it instead of suppress it. Women are, by nature, sexual beings. Just like men. Kuddos to her for bringing the abuse these women and so many others go through to the forefront.

What are your thoughts? I’m dying to know!
