I didn’t think there was anything wrong with that idea. Until I realized that the only person who’s opinion about me matters is myself. I spent so much time and energy doing things for people who would never like me even if I was Beyonce. Yes, you all know those types of people.
And then I woke up.
Hold up, wait a minute.
I am a good person, I have a lot to offer, and I’m loyal to a fault. Anyone who doesn’t like me for whatever reason or the other, is not my problem. Why should I care whether or not a stranger likes me? I don’t need approval from someone who barely knows me.
Those who are close to me do more than like me, they love me. The people I’ve chosen to surround myself with would never make anyone feel inferior or less than. And that’s all I could ask for.
The truth of the matter is, not everyone is going to like you. Not everyone is going to be your biggest fan or want to see you happy.
Welcome to the ugly truth. Not everyone has good intentions. That is life, and the sooner you learn this, the sooner you can be at peace.
Now that I’ve come to accept this, it’s easier for me to brush off those who don’t like me instead of sitting here and wondering what I’m doing wrong. Guess what? I wasn’t doing anything wrong! I was just being my true self. And no one can expect any more from me than to be real.
When you’re genuine, the right people will respond kindly. And ultimately, if you’re genuine you most likely want to surround yourself with people like yourself, right? So those who can’t handle your awesome soul can get the fuck out.
Instead of dwelling over why someone might not like you, focus on bringing in more meaningful relationships into your life. Anyone who can’t see how amazing you are just isn’t worth it.
Plain and simple.
