I hit my first SXSW (South by Southwest) in Austin, Texas this past weekend all thanks to Starz and their new show, Sweetbitter.
You all know how obsessed I am with Starz’s Power, so it was obviously no surprise that I was loving everything going on at the Sensory House. Each room was specifically designed to hit us with one of the five senses (touch, sound, smell, taste, sight). Check out the trailer for Sweetbitter below:
I walked into the Sweetbitter experience to be greeted by – what else – sweets! Sugarfina handled all the delicious candy that was chased down with several glasses of wine and custom cocktails. I was LOVING the taste section!
After getting my drink and sweets on, I went over to the smell section, equipped with the most Instagram worthy flower wall. It’s not an event if there aren’t Instagrammable walls, is it? The owner of parfumerie Roux Saint James, Krista Lacey, created 5 scents based on the characters in Sweetbitter.
After posing at the flower wall (my favorite part of the installation, let’s be honest), I made my way to where the screen printing section and got a dope tote bag that said FUCK BRUNCH. How anti-millennial of me, I know.
Unfortunately for me, I had just gotten my nails done, so I couldn’t experience the entire touch experience at the nail bar! I did get a cute little design though and took some time to take pics at the Vida wall. Vida is also a new show coming to Starz!
What I am looking forward to with both shows is that they are women driven and ethnically diverse. Our TVs need this. It is seriously my dream to be on a Starz show, which is why this experience was extra special to me. I also loved seeing so many women go in and out of the Sensory House while I was there. Sweetbitter and Vida air on Starz May 6th – make sure you download the Starz app, you get 7 days FREE!
I’ll be live tweeting Sweetbitter and Vida on May 6th! Thanks for having me Starz! You da real MVP.
