To the naive person inside of you…

To the naive person inside of you…

I grew up with my parents teaching me to find the good in people.

I grew up believing that people at their core were good — that they were just corrupted and changed by their environments and life experiences.

naiveDon’t get me wrong, I didn’t just open my heart up to everyone and let them in because I thought they were “good.” If my gut feeling told me something was off, I was out and closed off.

But what happens when you’re young and someone you once considered a great person has proven to actually be a horrible one over and over again? How many times does one have to get hurt before they realize that this person in their life is no longer a good one?

This is to all my fellow guys and girls out there who have the naive person inside of them. You are not alone. I’m right there with you. And sometimes what makes it worse is knowing you are being naive about everything.

If I had a dollar for every time someone (including myself) told me not to be so naive I would be richer than Donald Trump right now. How do you just un-naive yourself?

Perhaps it’s not that you lose this part of yourself, but rather grow with it and learn from it.

I’ve learned to let my naivety keep me grounded, but have grown to see that sometimes people just really are nasty. I’ve opened my heart when maybe I shouldn’t have only to experience heartbreak on so many different levels.

To the naive person inside, never lose that special innocence, but be smart enough to know that not everyone at their core is good and has the best intentions.

To the naive person inside, you are special. You are special because even through each heartbreak and disappointment, you still believe. You still believe the world is a good place and that good people still exist.

The world can often be a cruel place and the people are oftentimes even worse, but I really have to believe that despite all of this, there is so much good to be seen.

Never lose sight of that genuine innocence so many of us lose as we grow older and realize the world is not what we once thought it was. Know when people are deserving of you. Be strong enough to close the door on them when they are not. Because at the end of the day, you are worthy of greatness because you are great.
