Behind-The-Scenes: NYFW Fall/Winter 2015

Behind-The-Scenes: NYFW Fall/Winter 2015

Believe it or not, there is some down time during New York Fashion Week – not a lot, but it’s better than none. MBFWAfter each show there’s anywhere between 15-40 minutes of free time to charge up your phones, upload your media, network, or in my case, play with the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week sponsors!

So, what does the inside of Lincoln Center look like? I’m gonna show you, hunny!

First stop: SK-II Skin Care!

As soon as I sat down at the chair, they put a giant machine on the side of my face to screen my skin. Little did I know that this machine was going to tell me I had the skin of someone 10 years older than me, but the spot complexion of a 13-year-old. I didn’t know whether to freak out about getting wrinkles or jump for joy that in some way my skin could resemble that of a teenager’s. Awesome.

Fun fact: I don’t really have a skin care regimen. I use wipes to take off my make up and splash my face with water every night. 2 or 3 times a week I’ll use the Proactive scrub. And that’s about it. Shocking, I know. I don’t think the SK-II rep was very pleased when I told him that. Whoops.

Now that I’m getting older (not even mid-twenties yet and already freaking out about aging), I have to start taking care of my skin. Maybe the SK-II station was my sign!

During my consultation, I found out my skin was extremely dehydrated. Traveling, alcohol, lack of sleep and not enough water will do that to ya. Good news is, I can be helped!

The SK-II products keep your skin youthful and fight against aging. I was walked through a daily regimen — now I know I need to cleanse my face day AND night. It was all so helpful and informative. The team gave me some products that I’ve been using and I absolutely LOVE them! Sorry ladies, this is not #BougieOnABudget , but depending on how much you’re willing to spend on skin care, it might just be worth it for you.

Next stop: TRESemme for some glam hair!

TRESemme was the hair sponsor for all things New York Fashion Week, so they set up a mini-salon and offered free styling. Uh, hello? Where has this been all my life? Having arrived early in the morning, by the afternoon came around, my hair needed a serious pick-me-up. And of course, TRESemme was there to save the day!

I went upstairs and was greeted by my stylist, Marco. We talked about my hair, what frustrations I have with it (it gets oily too fast, it’s too flat, and I can’t find the right middle part). Marco immediately told me I wash my hair too much and that shampoo is actually not good for your hair! Who would have thought? He walked me through a new hair routine: ween off of shampoo and use dry shampoo more until you aren’t washing your hair more than once a week. Apparently washing your hair too much causes breakage and makes your hair produce even more oil.

After our little consultation, Marco and I talked about what I wanted to do with my hair — thankfully he said I did a great job doing my own hair! He took my hair from flat to Hollywood glam! I absolutely LOVED it and it stayed perfectly for my photoshoot later that night.

When I wasn’t busy worrying about my hair and skin, I was walking around and meeting some of your favorite bloggers! I came across a gorgeous blonde wearing the most amazing blue coat, so obviously I had to know where she got it. Turns out she was blogger, Cara Loren! Really sweet and really beautiful — no Instagram filter needed! Then, as I was waiting for my TRESemme appointment, I ran into my favorite blogger, Julia Hengal of GalMeetsGlam! Besides that, there were so many amazing power women around me and I really felt something special in the air. Not to mention, I also loved the E! News set up in Lincoln Center and the two sexy Mercedes Benz cars that were photoshoot ready!

It was truly something out of a dream to be able to witness what goes down behind-the-scenes at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. I’m curious to see how September will play out, being that it will no longer be at Lincoln Center!
