We’ve all been waiting for the Diane Sawyer x Bruce Jenner interview on ABC for months now. When the gossip magazines started revealing that Bruce was turning into a woman, everyone wanted answers. Was it just a publicity stunt? Was he just going through a stage?
Contrary to popular belief, it was neither a publicity stunt nor is it a stage he’s just going through. Bruce Jenner is transitioning into a woman, and tonight, millions tuned in as he gave Diane Sawyer the truth.
Before we get into what a brave human being Bruce is, can we take a moment to acknowledge that Diane Sawyer was a perfect choice for him to talk to?! She brought up the questions we have all been thinking and helped walk us through his journey.
Now we can get right into Bruce. Some may be repulsed by his transition into a woman, but I just cannot be more in awe of someone. I don’t know about you, but I find Bruce to be extremely brave. By going on national television and sharing his story, he is shining such a big light on what thousands of people go through every single day. Who cares if he is gay, straight, lesbian, bisexual, etc? He is a human being.
In today’s world, so many of us hide our true authentic selves; it’s hard to show people who we really are. Now imagine there’s a microscope on you for most of your life – people watching your every move – and you can’t live this life you were supposed to. I can’t even imagine. But Bruce bit the bullet, and tonight, he spoke his truth.
With pain in his eyes, he spoke about his journey in detail. And with tears in my eyes, my heart ached for him and for everyone that has to go through this. What a shame to feel like you can’t live your life the way you’re supposed to.
Because of Bruce Jenner and his open interview, people in the same situation will find solace in their journey. He may have started the first half of his life as “the greatest athlete in the world”, but now he might just be the bravest human in the world. He was real, raw, and vulnerable. I can’t wait to hear about how many lives he saved by coming out and what a difference he will make in the transgender community.
Be real. Be you. Be brave.
