How To Be Happy (And Not Apologize For It)

It’s hard to just be yourself and be happy if you worry constantly about what people think. Do people have too much of a say on what happens in your life? Do you want to break free from the shackles of self-judgment? Here’s how you can be yourself, be happy and not have to apologize for any minute of it.

Find Your Voice

If you find yourself silently fuming over something someone said, you might end up mulling over it all day. Get it out in the open and speak out. The trick is not to be afraid of the outcome. You have to be prepared that people might not like what you have to say, but that’s okay. The main thing is that you stop turning things over and over in your head and get it out in the open. It also helps to blog about your experiences, just to get them out of your own head.

Do What You Want

Doing the things you want to, without caring about what other people think is a fundamental part of being happy. You know your own personal goals and ambitions. For instance, you might be nervous about what people think of you going to a plastic surgeon in New Jersey. But if you want to do it, go for it. You know you’ll have done the research and invested time in thinking about what’s really best for you. 

Don’t Dwell On The Past

So many people are tied up with what they did from anything five seconds ago to five years ago. But no one else around you really thinks about that thing you may or may not have said last month. It’s only you that is holding yourself to such high standards. It’s time to stop dwelling on the past and plan present and future things that you will enjoy. Feel lighter and brighter by dropping the baggage you might be carrying around with you. 

Do Some Charity Work

Happiness might be helping others, so getting involved in some charity work is a great way to make yourself happy. It might be going to your local homeless hostel or being a mentor for someone that has been in a similar position to you. Sharing your advice or time with vulnerable people and listening to them might make both parties happy and improve both your lives as a result. 

Prioritize Your Health

The only person that is going to prioritize your health is you. Make that appointment with the doctor, take those days of work and jot some time down in your diary for exercise. Try not to tell yourself you are too busy, you should always have time for yourself. You’ll reap the rewards as a well-rested, happier person.


The only person that can really make you happy is yourself. Following the steps above is a great way to start feeling good about yourself, without having to apologize for the person you are. Be your own champion and start doing the things that make you happy.
