Single? Taken? Building My Empire.

Single? Taken? Building My Empire.

There must be something in the air because lately everyone has been worrying about my relationship status. Was im awesomeunaware that my love life was really all that interesting, but okay.

Now that I’m 24, done with school, have a job, and whatever else goes on in my crazy life, people expect me to actively search for a husband! What? Am I supposed to search for him like I would for a new condo? What the actual fuck.

I think as a woman gets older, the pressure to find a mate becomes more and more. At least it does where I come from. This is something I find really unfair, and quite frankly, it’s none of anyone’s business as to why I am single. My parents always raised me to focus on myself and when the timing is right, the right person will come your way as long as you’re open to it all. Sounds pretty reasonable right? No one ever told me to like hunt down a man and make him my husband — that’s ridiculous.

Marriage is something I plan on doing only once, so I’m not going to rush or settle for something. Far too often do I see girls desperate to be married and live this fantasy that really does not exist. Except in reality, you don’t get whisked away and ride off into the sunset for the rest of your lives. I believe in living happily ever after, but marriage will always take hard work and life is not always going to be easy.

So anyways, in the midst of everyone asking me whether I’m single or taken and not giving two shits that I’m also trying to build an empire at the same time, it got me thinking:

Am I single? Technically, yes. Doesn’t mean I sit at home all day and don’t go out on dates.

Am I taken? Technically, no.

From now on, I’m going to respond to these questions with exactly that — I’m building my empire. And when the right person comes, I will adjust my life accordingly.

So to answer all of your questions, no, I’m not planning on signing up on JDate anytime soon. Yes, I’m putting myself out there more. And at the end of the day, I never asked you for your opinions.

Just keepin’ it real.
