Turning your passion into a paycheck is a hot topic conservation amongst millennials. Whilst many of us are on the road to following our dreams, the sad reality is that your passion doesn’t always pay your bills.
I sat down with #girlboss Erika De La Cruz from Passion to Paycheck for a really honest conversation about all of this.
Take a look and LOL to the image of the video below:
It was really important for me to share how difficult the past 3 months have been for me. The facade we all put on Instagram about everything being great is awful for our self esteem. I try to be honest about what I’m going through, the battles I’m facing, and how I’m learning to navigate the process.
Erika is so inspiring and made it easy to open up. I love that she’s built an entire brand and empire on real stories about following your heart. Chasing the dream oftentimes has more ups than downs, but it really is possible to do it.
You have to find your hustle.
The reality is that until your passion is your paycheck, you have to work that 9 to 5 or have multiple side hustles. When my business is slower than usual, I freelance and brand consult. And I’ve had to come to terms that it’s okay to be in that position sometimes.
5 years doing Give Me Mora and I can say that yes, I am living the dream, but the dream also comes with a price. Sometimes you do miss out on social functions, sometimes you don’t hit your projected numbers, and sometimes you do have to prioritize work over everything else.
